The field offers an intensive program of study and research, emphasizing, the biochemical, biophysical, molecular, and clinical aspects of pharmacology. Current areas of research include drug-receptor interactions, ion channels, signal transduction, and cell activation. The field prepares each student for a productive career in biomedical research and teaching.

Application:
Applicants with a bachelor of science, master of science, medical, or veterinary degree will be considered for admission to the Ph.D. program. Applicants should have had course work in biochemistry, chemistry, mathematics, molecular biology, physics, and physiology. Applicants that do not have the necessary background will be expected to take the relevant courses after they matriculate at Cornell. Applicants are required to submit GRE general test scores. The field does not normally accept students into a terminal master's degree program.

Background

Pharmacology is one of five graduate fields associated with the Biological & Biomedical Sciences (BBS) Graduate Program. As an umbrella program, the BBS fosters an atmosphere of collaboration, focusing on the interface between scientific research and clinical practice as well as a commitment to animal and human health. The Graduate Fields associated with the BBS Program share a set of values and expectations in the training of PhD students.
