Graduation Manager filing instructions

When you have defended and received preliminary approval of the content from all committee members, you may submit the full final document to Graduation Manager. You may not submit a draft or partial document.
  • Convert your file to a PDF. Please name the PDF with your first and last name (eg. MarySmithThesis.pdf). When you submit the PDF, all documents are uploaded into the Closed Community to protect your publishing rights. BE SURE THIS IS THE FULL FINAL COPY THAT YOUR COMMITTEE HAS APPROVED.
  • Log onto cfp-isca.cit.cornell.edu/thesis_mgr/ with your NetID and password.
  • You will be presented with a series of questions that you must answer. Some of these questions replace questions that once appeared on the now-defunct Graduate School Degree Information form. The Graduate School requires two (2) copies of your work, but you have the opportunity to order additional copies for yourself, advisor, department etc. Color copies are available; just indicate page numbers when ordering. Click here for a complete price list. All copies are printed at Olin Library and these charges are billed to your bursar account.
  • If corrections need to be made to the format of your thesis or dissertation, your file will be rejected. You will receive an e-mail indicating what needs to be corrected. When you have made the changes, convert your file to a PDF (see #2 above) and upload the corrected file. You will receive an "accepted" e-mail when the Thesis Advisor approves the format.
  • Once the format is approved, all your Special Committee members will receive an e-mail requesting their final approval. Please review the committee data carefully. If anything is incorrect, please contact the Graduate Student Services office in 143 Caldwell Hall before you proceed with the submission. Once all committee members have approved of your submitted work, the system will generate a Thesis Approval Form and the print order is electronically sent to Olin Library.
  • PLEASE NOTE: When you submit your thesis or dissertation through Graduation Manager, you do NOT need signed abstracts and thesis approval form printed on archival paper. Digital submission waives that requirement.

Fees (if owed)

All fees must be paid at the Bursar Office, 260 Day Hall or through NetPay at the time of submission approval. These charges must be prepaid and will not be posted to your account until all requirements have been met. You must notify the Thesis Advisor that payment has been made.
  • Dissertation Filing Fee: $135. Required for all PhD students. Pay to the Bursar Office, 260 Day Hall.
  • Late Filing Fee: $100. Pay directly to the Bursar office. Due if 60 days after the "B" exam.
  • Active File Fee: $200 per semester. Charge for each semester after the "A" exam that a student is not registered up to a maximum of 6 semesters.

Doctoral Students Only

  • Bring, mail, email or fax (255-1816) the completed UMI form along with a regular paper copy of your title page and abstract (you must write your chair's name on the top of the title page; it does not require the chair's signature) to 125 Caldwell Hall or thesis@cornell.edu
  • Bring, mail or e-mail the Survey of Earned Doctorates (printed from web site) to 125 Caldwell Hall or thesis@cornell.edu
  • The UMI form is available at www.gradschool.cornell.edu/forms

Diploma Information

  • Address for diploma. Keep in mind that the diploma will be mailed three (3) months after the conferral date. (Thus, the shipping date can be as much as six (6) months after submission of the thesis.) All diplomas are shipped UPS; none are held for pickup. It is the student's responsibility to update the home address (street address, not a P.O. Box) in Student Center/Just the Facts for mailing of the diploma. International deliveries require a phone number. The University Registrar's office will mail the diploma to the home address. There are no exceptions.
